Welcome to my food blog! I few facts about me to begin:
1) I am a vegetarian, and I have been since I was 9. It started with ethical reasons and after years of educating myself on the subject, I am a vegetarian for pretty much every reason there is.
2) I have absolutely no training in the kitchen and technically I am probably not the best cook out there. But I produce some seriously delicious meals that leave the meat eaters in my life seriously satisfied.
3) I am pretty obsessed with food. The average person probably thinks about food and their next meal only as it approaches meal time. I, however, start thinking about my next meal the second I finish my first one. I spend an embarrassing amount of time on foodgawker.com everyday and I think going to the grocery store is fun (and usually dangerous for my wallet). You know the saying, “there is a skinny person inside every fat person?” Well, i’m pretty sure there is a fat person inside of me dieing to get out.
So what can you expect from this blog??
People are constantly asking me:
“What do you eat?” (everything)
“How do you get enough protein?” (ah, the big protein myth, I will make a whole separate post to address this)
“Don’t you miss steak?” (I didn’t even like it when I ate meat)
This blog will show the plethora of things that I eat (and in reality, my diet is far more varied than the average American’s diet) and just how delicious it all is (even tofu!). I hope to show people that being a vegetarian doesn’t mean passing up all the “great stuff” your omnivorous friends are eating, but rather leads to a more varied, delicious, and healthy diet that is good for you, your appetite, and our planet.
A dollop of science here, a smidgen of humor there, and a whole bunch of great meals…. and you have Veggie with a Cause :-).
